The Legacy of Ibrahim (AS): Honoring Faith Through Sacrifice
Each year during Eid al-Adha, Muslims globally commemorate an extraordinary moment of devotion the sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and the unwavering obedience he and his son Ismail (AS) showed to Allah. This ritual, known as Qurbani, is one of the most profound acts of worship in Islam, rooted in history, faith, and timeless compassion.
Who is Prophet Ibrahim (AS)?
Prophet Ibrahim (AS), also known as Prophet Abraham, is one of the most honoured figures in Islamic tradition. Revered as Khalilullah the Friend of Allah, he serves as the ultimate model of absolute submission to the Divine. His life was defined by truth, unwavering faith, and the courage to uphold the oneness of God (Tawheed) despite immense personal hardship.
The Ultimate Test: A Heart Proved
Among the most powerful stories in Islamic tradition is the dream granted to Ibrahim (AS), in which he was commanded to sacrifice his beloved son, Ismail (AS). This was no ordinary child; Ismail (AS) was a gift born after a lifetime of patience and hope.
When Ibrahim (AS) consulted his son, Ismail (AS) replied with resolute faith:
“O my father, do as you are commanded. You will find me, if Allah wills, of the steadfast“ (Surah As-Saffat, 37:102)
As the blade was set to descend, Allah intervened, revealing that the vision had been fulfilled. A ram was provided from heaven to be sacrificed in Ismail’s place. This moment was never about the taking of a life; it was a testament to the purity of a heart, demonstrating the immense reward of total trust in Allah.
Why Qurbani Matters Today
Today, Qurbani remains a vital act of worship. For those financially able, it is a duty to sacrifice an animal, following the example of Prophet Ibrahim (AS). Traditionally, the meat is divided into three parts: for one’s family, for relatives and friends, and crucially for those in need. It is a powerful reminder that faith must always be paired with active compassion.
Giving Qurbani Through IF Charity in 2026
In 2026, the humanitarian landscape in Gaza remains dire. With the collapse of local food systems and the destruction of nearly 90% of the region’s livestock, the traditional local performance of Qurbani is no longer possible for most families.
At IF Charity, we are committed to upholding the spirit of this sacrifice by navigating the current challenges to deliver essential nourishment to those suffering. Because of the ongoing crisis and infrastructural damage, our Qurbani programme is adapted to ensure reliable, dignified distribution:
- Practical Relief: We prioritise canned meat, which is essential in areas with limited electricity, ensuring families have a stable food source for months.
- Direct Impact: Your contribution bridges the gap for displaced families, providing dignity and a sense of celebration during the blessed days of Eid.
Your sacrifice brings hope where it is needed most.
This year, as you honour the legacy of Ibrahim (AS), choose to submit, trust, and give.
