Ramadan: Delivering a ‘Break to Heal’ amidst the War & Siege in Gaza
While we gather with our families to break our fast in safety, our thoughts remain with the millions in Gaza observing the holy month under unimaginable hardship. The humanitarian situation on the ground, already precarious, has worsened significantly following the indefinite closure of major crossings into the territory.
As reported by The Guardian, the attack on Iran and the subsequent regional war has led to the indefinite closure of crossings into Gaza. This has created an unprecedented crisis, with food stocks dwindling and prices skyrocketing, making even basic necessities inaccessible for most families.
Yet, amidst this darkness, your generosity is a shining light. Through your unwavering support, iF Charity is actively turning hunger into hope and providing a Break to Heal.
Here is an update on how your donations are providing help right now:
Community Iftar: The Strength of Connection
In some North African countries, such as Morocco, the invitation to eat is phrased as نتعالج—”let’s go heal”. This healing is magnified when shared. In the face of displacement and loss, the community meal is a powerful act of defiance and solidarity.
🌙 At sunset, people gather around a shared meal. Community iftar is more than food. It brings connection, warmth, and the spirit of Ramadan in difficult times.
Hot Meals: A Warm Iftar in Khan Younis
For displaced families who have lost their homes and possessions, preparing a meal is impossible. Your donations ensure that they are not forgotten as the sun set.
We are cooking and distributing hot iftar meals in Khan Younis, standing beside displaced families and making sure they have a warm meal to break their fast despite the challenging circumstances.
Vegetable Baskets: Hope and Reassurance
The simple act of planning an Iftar brings a sense of normalcy and reassurance to a family. Your giving provides the ingredients for that hope.
We continue to distribute vegetable baskets during the blessed month of Ramadan, standing beside families in need and helping them prepare their iftar with hope and reassurance. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: “Whoever gives food to a fasting person will have a reward like that of the fasting person”.
Fresh Water: “The Best Charity”
Clean, safe water is the foundation of life and health, yet in Gaza, it has become a luxury. Reliable access determines the shape of a family’s day.
We are distributing fresh water to support displaced families facing ongoing hardship. The Prophet ﷺ said: “The best charity is giving water.” May this act of providing water bring relief to families and reward to all those who contribute.
Direct Financial Aid: Restoring Dignity and Choice
Healing requires empowerment. In a landscape where market prices fluctuate wildly due to the siege, flexibility is key to survival.
The project provides direct financial support to vulnerable families to help cover urgent living expenses during the holy month of Ramadan. Your support ensures dignity, stability, and relief when it is needed most.
Elderly Diapers: Restoring Comfort and Care
When we speak about healing, we do not limit the meaning to medical treatment alone. True healing includes emotional support and restoring basic comfort, particularly for the most vulnerable among us.
This Ramadan, we are providing essential diapers for the elderly and people with disabilities to help restore comfort and dignity.
Be the Healing They Are Praying For
We are profoundly grateful for the solidarity and mercy you have shown. However, with the new siege closing lifelines into Gaza, the situation is critical. The needs are escalating daily.
As we approach the final, most blessed nights of Ramadan, where every good deed is multiplied, we urge you to continue your support. Your Zakat and Sadaqah are the bridge to their recovery.
