Supporting Pregnant Women in Gaza: UNFPA Palestine Situation Report
January 14, 2025

The humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to escalate, leaving vulnerable groups like pregnant women at extreme risk. With healthcare infrastructure on the brink of collapse, thousands of women face immense challenges in accessing essential medical care.
As of December 2024, more than two-thirds of Gaza’s hospitals and primary care clinics are no longer functional. This dire situation has left approximately 50,000 pregnant women in Gaza without adequate access to antenatal and postnatal services.
Every day, over 160 women give birth, often in unsafe and unsanitary conditions, without skilled medical assistance.
The lack of resources has contributed to rising maternal and infant mortality rates. Women are frequently forced to deliver their babies at home or in overcrowded shelters, with limited or no access to medical support. Malnutrition among pregnant women is also alarmingly high, further endangering their health and that of their unborn children.
According to UNFPA, in December 2024, less than 30% of their planned aid movements were facilitated, and none were permitted into North Gaza. For months, 46 UNFPA trucks carrying essential health supplies and life-saving items have been stalled at the border.
What’s being done?
Despite the overwhelming challenges, organisations like IF Charity are stepping up to support pregnant women in Gaza, to supplement the efforts of UNRWA and UNFPA.
By providing critical aid such as maternal care supplies, safe delivery services, and nutritional support, NGOs in Gaza are helping to alleviate the immense suffering faced by expectant mothers.
Your donations can make a direct and life-saving impact on the lives of pregnant women and their newborns in Gaza. Here’s how:
- £50: Provides essential food parcels to families, ensuring that pregnant women receive the nourishment they need for a healthy pregnancy.
- £20: Provides warm clothing for Palestinian children and families living in makeshift tents and temporary shelters.
- £8: Offers a warm meal to a displaced family, bringing comfort and relief during these challenging times.
