International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression
June 4, 2020
“Millions of children are caught up in conflicts in which they are not merely bystanders, but targets.”
Graça Machel, Expert of the Secretary-General
International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression came in to being in response to the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982- the UN General Assembly was left “appalled at the great number of innocent Palestinian and Lebanese children victims of Israel’s acts of aggression.”
The Israeli military continues to use indiscriminate force against Palestinian children; at least 3,000 Palestinian children have been killed since the year 2000 as a result of occupation-related violence, settler attacks and military incursions. The prevalence of mental health conditions among Palestinian children, predominantly post-traumatic stress disorder and depression, continues to increase- in an epidemic that is set to scar the next generation for years to come.
IF Charity recognises the importance of providing trauma support to children in Gaza, including the need to create a safe space for children and their families to seek help following times of increased violence. To find out more, please give us a call on 0121 663 1309.
